Woodfired Coneflowers & Butterfly Pinched Teacup 10oz *Some Ash
Coneflowers bloom joyously across the surface of this woodfired teacup, hosting a single monarch butterfly feeding on it’s nectar. The piece was made entirely in the hand, without the wheel, as a means of physical therapy for Jessica as she was trying to regain her sense of touch and retrain her fingers. Each piece was made in intervals of 10 seconds, the maximum amount of time that she could work on pottery in the beginning. I chose to draw these flowers because, to me, they symbolize unrestrained joy and the freedoms of summertime.
The interior is beautiful, crystally blue, with peaks of pale pink and lavendar reminding us of ice and snow (and just a hint of unicorn).
This teacup has a nice mix of warm toasty flashing and a gentle kiss of ash deposit centered on the coneflower where the butterfly is perching. The dolomite liner glaze is showing off all its tricks, pink and purple crystals, creamy snowflakes, and crackled satin blue background.
