Drippy pours of thin white slip over stoneware clay provide a rich background for the graphic elements of Jessica’s underglaze “fat bird” design. Heavier ash was allowed to play on the undecorated side of the vase that we faced toward the firebox while softer flashing enlivened the bold black decoration.
