Woodfired Forget-Me-Not Pinched Teacup 8oz *Heavy Ash
Forget-me-nots in bloom and bud wrap around the surface of this woodfired teacup. The piece was made entirely in the hand, without the wheel, as a means of physical therapy for Jessica as she was trying to regain her sense of touch and retrain her fingers. Each piece was made in intervals of 10 seconds, the maximum amount of time that she could work on pottery in the beginning.
These flowers traditionally represent fidelity, faithfulness, and true love. They are what is steadfast and unwavering. After the past few years that we’ve all had, the idea of something that represents what is most fundamental, most true, was irresistible. The flowers were painted a delicate blue that interacted and ran in the kiln. This piece received heavy deposits of ash, blurring and softening the imagery. This piece won’t be for everyone, but I think the interaction of the wood kiln with the drawing is beautiful and symbolizes the unexpected beauty you can find when you’ve literally been through the fire.
The interior is a beautiful, crystally blue, reminding us of snow and ice.
All pieces are made by hand, and have the traces of being touched and formed on them - soft unevenness, gently waving rim, drawings made directly on the surface. We hope you’ll prize the “imperfections” that make them truly human like we do.
