Woodfired Wild Roses Pinched Teacup 10oz
Wild Roses, leaves with thorns and rosebuds bloom across the surface of this woodfired teacup. The piece was made entirely in the hand, without the wheel, as a means of physical therapy for Jessica as she was trying to regain her sense of touch and retrain her fingers. Each piece was made in intervals of 10 seconds, the maximum amount of time that she could work on pottery in the beginning. The wild roses symbolize beauty (the bloom) amdist trial (the thorns) and the balance of both in our lives. We can thrive even when thorns exist!
The interior is beautiful, crystally blue, reminding us of ice and snow.Jessica’s soft pinched forms already have a lot of movement, but the flame path was kind to this little beauty, lightly highlighting one of the flowers. The dolomite liner glaze developed beautiful crystal growth in a silky satin matrix.
All pieces are made by hand, and have the traces of being touched and formed on them - soft unevenness, gently waving rim, drawings made directly on the surface. We hope you’ll prize the “imperfections” that make them truly human like we do.
