Woodfired Turk's Cap Lilies with Swallowtail Butterfly 16oz
Lilies twist and turn across the surface of this handmade, woodfired mug as a single swallowtail butterfly hovers to collect its nectar. The piece was made on the pottery wheel by Rob and then given to Jess to illustrate. I chose to draw these flowers because of their unique petals that curl upwards, their individuality and their quirkiness.
The interior is beautiful, crystally blue, reminding us of ice and snow, and the exterior is alive with the toasty colors of wood firing, created by the path of flame and ash in the kiln.
All pieces are made by hand, and have the traces of being touched and formed on them - soft unevenness, gently waving rim, drawings made directly on the surface. We hope you’ll prize the “imperfections” that make them truly human like we do.
